What is EcoFem?

EcoFem is an innovation developing biodegradable sanitary pad prototypes that use processed water hyacinth fibres as part of the absorbent core.
The project responds to two urgent realities: the need for more affordable menstrual hygiene options and the environmental burden created by invasive water hyacinth and persistent sanitary waste.
EcoFem is currently under development. Its materials, product design and performance continue to be tested and improved in preparation for wider validation, certification and future commercialization.

Looking differently at an environmental challenge.
EcoFem began with a practical question: could a problematic plant biomass be transformed into a useful material for a product women rely on every month?
That question led to research into water hyacinth fibres, absorbent-core development and sanitary pad prototyping. The work continues through comparison, testing and improvement--with affordability, comfort and environmental responsibility guiding each decision.
